Thomas Dausell works in black and white – with oil paint, acrylic and indian ink on paper and canvas.

Thomas Dausell is in his artistic work driven by change and transformation. He creates space which is constantly moving. He captures the relation between construction and demolition in a repeatedly interaction. He works spontaneously, catches the unforeseen in a process which is constantly changing. Space are being created and at the same moment destroyed. Recognizable elements are put together in an abstract landscape, in a way so that you sense that they are broken – but not smashed up - unrecognizable. They enter into a more subtle, sophisticated way, where they still has a function. In his pictures you experience an alternate between expanse and room, which in a picture-technically way can guide or deflect the spectator: If you search for the illusion in the well-known you will constantly be reminded, that it is just an abstract painting. In his work Thomas Dausell makes contrasts meet in an aesthetically process: Simplicity opposite chaos, darkness opposite light, destruction opposite beauty.
Often Thomas’ pictures contain several layers: His fascination of ambiguity and doubleness you see for instance in his “Apollo” series. In these pictures you see material from NASA’s spaceprogramme: Apollo. This project from the 60’ties was a symbol on the fact that now mankind was heading towards the stars. Now, being in year 2013 this same project seems antique. Today we look upon the technology and design of that time as totally outdated. But the very mission, still remains as one of the biggest achievements in the history of mankind. This doubleness past/present – a kind of “retro-futurisme”, refers directly to the idea of space being created while it is at the same time falling apart and being abolished.
