Epsilon Lyrae is a multiple star system, 162 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Lyra, close to the bright star Vega. It is know also as the Double Double, as the system contains two sets of binary stars orbiting each other. Remarkably, each pair is also physically connected to the other, orbiting under mutual gravitational attraction. The northern pair, called Epsilon 1, has a separation of 2.6 arcseconds. Epsilon 2 has a present separation of 2.3 arcseconds. These two pairs where first noticed in 1779 by William Herschel.
A metaphor for love and attraction.
Nature is the artist. The “Scientific Landscapes” series of linocuts and oil paintings is based on hand-picked images from the scientific world. These images are created by nature itself, they are transmitted to us through technological devices.
